Spartans!!!

7I watched 300: rise of the empire a few months back, loved it, so good, people say part one was better but I am not writing for a debate but rather about the Spartans.

The Spartans got me excited for many reasons but focusing on their character and mentality today.  They have a lot of dedication and loyalty to their king and land, even with just 300 men they did not fear to go face the enemy. I believe if only more Christians had this mentality, including myself.

Spartan means

  •  Rigorously self-disciplined or self-restrained.
  • Simple, frugal, or austere: a Spartan diet; a spartan lifestyle.
  •  Marked by brevity of speech; laconic.
  •  Courageous in the face of pain, danger, or adversity.

I am writing this because we need to be Spartans for God, to stop being babies, needing milk all the time. A five year still needing milk is questionable, why dont we  apply this to our spiritual lives.  We need to be completely dedicated to him, trusting him, obeying him, sacrificing our free will for him, and be ready to face off the enemy at any given time. The Persians saw themselves as gods that could not be defeated, but as Christians we are so divided among ourselves there is no united front, so we are fighting each other and that way the enemy creeps in and digs a bigger hole. There are so many Christian denominations, it’s confusing. We have one goal and that is to win souls for God , that is it, with this goal, there are many ways to go about it. at the end of the day, it should still be our goal.

I want to be a Spartan for God. I want to love God with all my heart, to be dedicated to him, show no mercy to the enemy, always got my Armor ready. To be able to do this, I need to seek God daily and mediate on his word, that’s my training, to die to my flesh.  For the Spartans to be who they are, they trained hard!!!!. Also they were united no matter what. do you know how much power lies in a united front. We need to be there for each other and not pass off judgement, we are not God and you might not know what the other person is  going through, rather than passing judgement, why don’t you try to be there for that person, encourage them, pray for them and love them.

It is not easy, but you feeling sorry for yourself wont change anything, self pity  is exactly what the devil wants, so pick up your sword (the Bible) and tell the devil to shut up, so you can get on with your life. Don’t dwell in condemnation, that’s dangerous, the devil will play with your mind. Ask for forgiveness and move on from it. Like John 3 v17 says ” For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” and Romans 8v1-2 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” So believe you are forgiven and free and become a Spartan for God.

To know what God’s Armor is, you will need this chapter.

Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV)

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God,so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

God bless xx
